ok questions questions.. please do tell me if you know..
what's the difference essentially between being a couple, getting enggage and getting married? - this excludes the commitment factor because we are assuming that it is already factored in.

as a couple, u hold hands and kiss.. and share everything..
enggage - same thing isnt it? its not that you can already jump into bed with each other. and dun tell me this is a trial period.. even if it is, what was wrong with trying as a couple?? the promises u make then and when ur enggage holds the same level of fulfillment isnt it?
married... aside from being able to stay together and sleep together, how does it essentially affect the relationship between the two lovers??
ok maybe i am being dumb... but at least i can't see a clear diff between couple and getting enggage...

Materialistically : engaged means there is a rock on you finger =P
Other than that... I guess being engaged would just mean u have to often answer this question "so when's the big day??" but we get that anyway, even as a non-engaged couple so... i don't really know what the difference is too

hmmm i wld infer that being a couple tho' official does not reflect that you will marry. The couple period shld be still the courtship period plus allowing yourself time to ascertain whether the person is the one for you or to see how he/she or both of you together react to challenges; basically finding out the person's background.
Engagement is a formal and official announcement that you are going to tie the knot. An announcement to everyone that you have found the right person to spend the rest of your life with. So the period between proposal to the wedding day
is the engagement period, which is sometimes used as the time to plan the actual wedding.
Marriage is when two ppl are joined together at the altar (depending on customs of course) in a wedding. After tis then they are known as husband and wife and thus the engagement period ends.
whether there's a ring of some sort preceding, during or after the engagement, does not really reflect the status of couple per se (obv, the ring on the wedding finger will show that your married, but thats not the point here). Its the official wedding ceremony that does announce in the presence of witnesses that you are husband and wife, before that you were engaged and preceding that you were just a couple.

conclusion:enggagement is jz a name to the period in between..
i guess marriage is too big a thing to settle overnight, thus need enggagement period to plan?
other than for planning purpose, still dun understand why must have enggagement this matter... hahaha..also one doesnt have to be enggage to plan a wedding isnt it??
when ur juz bf/gf u can still back out of the relationship wif relatively no repercussions.. its where u find out if whether u guys will work out or not..
an engagement is confirming tat u wanna spend the rest of ur life wif the person.. u dun get engaged unless u r sure u wanna marry the person.. knowing u wanna spend the rest of ur life wif the person n it actually happening is kinda 2 diff things.. engagement makes it a reality n ur relationship steps up a level..
tats my opinion.. but then i'm mildly commitment phobic.. :p
